Trapped in a Dating Sim

Trapped in a Dating Sim: “The Underdog” (Very few Spoilers)

Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs is an anime that is being slept on especially for a mecha isekai anime. This season of anime (Spring 2022) for sure had some bangers; Kaguya-sama: Love is War — Ultra Romantic, Spy x Family, Date A Live IV, Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2, Etc… Due to these big names, I believe that this anime did not get the light it should have gotten; mainly for its main character… Alright let me be honest from the start; the anime itself is a very basic Isekai; the main character dies and is reincarnated to another world.. what’s new? However, the main character’s attitude and actions bring a level of comedy that just makes you want to finish the episode and start the next one. You really can’t tell if he’s just trying to help out or just wants to see the world burn; I personally love to think it’s the latter of the two.

The main character of this story is named Leon Fou Bartfort aka “The Fiendish Knight”. His sister blackmailed him into finishing a game 100% within a week’s time; the game was a long and challenging dating sim of some kind. Once he finished the game he went to go get some food and fell down the stairs due to overexertion and was reincarnated into, you guessed it; the dating sim world. Now this dating sim that he was forced birthed into was a knight’s fantasy mecha-based world. Simple so far right? Well, the thing is, he wasn’t the main character; well at least he didn’t want to be the main charter. Hence the name Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs.

The Fiendish Knight

Leon mainly wanted a quite nice life with a beautiful bride; however, once he realized that dream of his was threatened from the start. He immediately used all the knowledge that he had of this world (from 100%ing the game) to get ahead of anything and everyone who got in his. Leon was then able to get into the top academy that was meant to teach the brightest young adults about academics, magic, tea time (yes, I said tea time), and Mechas. We see both the main female leads as our main man Leon enters his new school life; as well as a few obstacles that he’ll have to deal with eventually. Since this world is based on the game, he is shocked to see that for some reason things aren’t playing out as they should. However, he decides to leave it be as he does not see himself as the main character nor does he want to get involved; he simply wants to play his part in this world as any other background Mob (NPC).

However, he decides to leave it be as he does not see himself as the main character. Seems “simple” right? But, the main character’s twisted personality keeps you wanting more. You see our main boy Leon did not just get the name “The Fiendish Knight” out of nowhere. Within the first 5 episodes of the anime, he completely destroys, humiliates, and disgraces the five “main guys” of the game. While also slowly winning the hearts of the two female leads. BTW, these guys were loved by all and sons of high-ranking nobles and knights; heck even the main blue hair idiot was not safe from our Fiendish Knight’s wrath and he is the queen’s son!! Oh yeah, this world is A matriarchy (basically girls run the world). He also, by the way, did this IN AN ARENA FULL WITH EVERYONE FROM THEIR SCHOOL. Safe to say he was hated by most; before and after this event. (The five idiots are below)

 Leon and Luxion

But the way he did it was just “muah chefs kiss”. What makes it even better is that he wasn’t even trying to be completely sadist; he was actually trying to give them advice. Combined with the fact that he has a twisted personality, his luck always seems to make him look like the bad guy(which he loves playing BTW), and he has a little friend named Luxion that looks like “The ghost” from the video game “Destiny 2”. It’s safe to say that the main character definitely carries this anime. Also, this little friend of ours seems to hate all humans besides Leon and is willing to help him destroy anybody who gets in his way. I mean the dialog between Leon and Luxion was enough to have me finish this anime not once but twice…

Once again it’s easy to pick out plenty of moments from this anime that had me dying of laughter. I also didn’t want to get into too much detail because I want you, readers, to give the anime a try. It’s not the best, but Leon for sure makes it a worthwhile watch. Plus if you are looking for a nice short anime to binge watch then this is the one for you.

The verdict

I give this anime an 8/10 in evil laughs
